Feb 1, 2016 · I've done Toronto to Jasper back in 2010 and Edmonton to Toronto in 2011. Back then, they had really good deals, so I managed to grab upper bunk and lower bunk for $250 all in each time. Not much of a view in Ontario unless you like looking at trees.

Jul 15, 2012 · VIA Rail: in the middle. About 5.5-6 hours from Union to Centrale. Numerous stops between cities; concessions cart comes by twice on the trip, offering sandwiches, drinks, and beer. Megabus: Slow, dirt cheap at times, at other times super expensive. It's as direct a route as it gets from Downtown Toronto to Downtown Montreal.

At Ottawa and Toronto you just read the screens and join the appropriate line. Someone will go down the line with the scale and weight any luggage that looks overly heavy. In most cases you just bring the bags with you on the train. Knapsacks and small suitcases fit in the overhead. Oversized stuff goes on the racks at one end of each car.
