Music therapy is a discipline in which Certified Music Therapists (MTAs) use music purposefully within therapeutic relationships to support development, health, and well-being. Music therapists use music safely and ethically to address human needs within cognitive, communicative, emotional, musical, physical, social, and spiritual domains.
CAMT-Recognized Music Therapy Education Programs. CAMT recognition is given to undergraduate and graduate programs upon demonstration of their adherence to CAMT Standards of Practice.
The Canadian Association of Music Therapists (CAMT) has strict guidelines and standards for professional competence. CAMT utilizes the title of Certified Music Therapist (MTA), to designate music therapists who have successfully completed the certification process.
CAMT’s membership year runs from January 1 to December 31 for all members. Renewal fees are due on January 1 and a late fee of $20.00 is applied as of January 15. New members can apply at any time. Dues received after July 1 will be credited to the next membership year .
The Canadian Association of Music Therapists (CAMT) is a federally incorporated, self-regulated non-profit professional association dedicated to fostering the practice of music therapy in clinical, educational, and community settings throughout Canada.

CAMT Ethics. All Certified MTAs are required to act in an ethical manner while carrying out their professional duties. To signify their understanding of this, they sign a statement of adherence to the CAMT Code of Ethics. Click here to view the Code of Ethics (updated September 2022)
