Kroeger and Marianna were together for six years and eight months. The couple met after Kroeger spotted Goriuk at the Edmonton concert. She was a hairdresser who had cut his grandmother's hair. Goriuk, who had a six-acre farm where she kept two horses outside Camrose, moved to Vancouver in May 2002.
