  1. Browse new releases, best sellers, popular categories and more at Book Depository, the world's most international online bookstore. Find books for every taste and interest, from fiction to non-fiction, from children's to graphic novels, and enjoy free delivery to over 20 million destinations.

    • Wordery. Like Book Depository, this is a U.K.- based online bookstore with supposedly free global shipping. Alas, by “global,” they truly mean “fewer than 40 countries.”
    • Waterstones. I didn’t set out to include primarily U.K.- based bookshops, but best laid plans, right? Waterstones, and its academic and specialized cousin Blackwell’s, have huge selections, and they truly do ship almost worldwide.
    • Better World Books. Better World Books really seems to live up to the hype, and it has a decent chance of becoming my new online bookstore of choice. Based in the United States, it ships to a great deal of countries at either $1.49 for orders under $15, or free for orders over $15.
    • World of Books. If you love second hand books as much as I do, keep an eye on World of Books or, as its logo proclaims, Wob. It doesn’t ship worldwide, but it does offer affordable shipping to a decent number of countries, plus free shipping within the U.K., and it has a nice selection of over seven million books.
    • Blackwells. Blackwells is a sort-of independent UK bookseller (it was recently bought by Waterstones but maintains its own separate website and shipping policies).
    • Waterstones. Waterstones is a large British book retailer (big enough that it bought US chain Barnes & Noble in 2019). It has an enormous selection and also lots of special editions* with fancy features like author signatures and decorative page edges which are lovely.
    • Awesome Books. Awesome Books have an excellent premise, as they originally started life to rescue good quality books that charity shops were throwing away due to limited storage space.
    • Wordery. Wordery is another UK bookstore to consider that may be available to some. They are wholly an online bookstore, and stock both UK and US editions (but I should note, they were also bought by the owners of Waterstones in 2020, even though they are maintained as a separate business).
  2. Book Depository (previously The Book Depository) was a Gloucester, United Kingdom based online book seller. Founded by a former Amazon employee, it operated from 2004 to 2023. History

  3. Book Depository: $46.85 Amazon: $24.50 Booktopia: $30.80 In this case, Book Depository is actually over the RRP, probably to account for shipping the heavy tome to far-off lands.

  4. Apr 5, 2023 · Book Depository was founded by Andrew Crawford, who is a former Amazon employee, and Stuart Felton in 2004. It was bought by Amazon seven years later, and has offices in London, Gloucester, Madrid ...
