Unlike dogs or cats (and what general vets are often not aware of), guinea pigs have a much higher metabolism and can tolerate high levels of metacam without getting kidney problems. 0.05 ml is the equivalent of one drop.

It can be used as a one-off end of treatment shampoo and for treating yourself if you actually catch ringworm from an acutely affected guinea pig.
Aug 28, 2023 · Prevention: The best treatment is prevention which is where the hay comes in. Timothy hay is known to be coarse however another factor is the cutting. First cuttings are always higher in fibre and coarser so getting second cuttings is a much better option as they tend to be softer decreasing the risk of hay pokes.

On the Loxicom/Metacam front, I was led to believe that Dog Strength 1.5mg/ml at 0.2ml twice a day equating to 0.4ml overall is the higher end of dose range for piggies. Although I have heard of some vets going higher with it in short term because of piggies higher metabolism.

However for two reasons I am considering a slight change to. 16g (1.6mm) welded, galvansed mesh. 1' x 1/2' squares. This is the same mesh, but with 1 inch by 1/2 inch holes, rather than 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch. Obviously this offers slightly less protection.

Guinea pigs don’t need baths unless there is a medical need to do so - ie bathing at the end of ringworm treatment or if they are old, arthritic, immobile and not keeping their back end clean. In the case of not keeping back end clean, it’s best to try to first wash them using a bum bath and just plain water.
