No we saw Jacob inserting himself into everyone’s lives prior to the island. John wasn’t “special”, the island or universe didn’t become him here because of any destiny.
Jun 10, 2023 · Locke makes a lot of sense when you view his actions as stemming from that internal struggle between belief and betrayal. The struggle made him amazing at times and horrible at times. Sometimes it made him wise and sometimes it made him the ultimate fool. Locke could be a protector and a villain.
Jul 28, 2023 · John was manipulated by an ancient malevolent being, fueled by one of 4 natural forces, electromagnetism (form and substance). There's no shame in that. Nonetheless, he died, prompting the candidates to return,. And Locke's body provided the substance that allowed for the defeat of MIB.
Jul 26, 2019 · Yeah it's creepy. Totally bad timing for Kate, she was already doing a task that would creep anyone out. Locke looks like a demon. Even worse to me is his guilty reaction, so lame, so telling of Locke's conflicted personality. Totally a masterpiece of storytelling and foreshadowing. And let's not forget Kate, 'stealing' from a dead man.
Nov 9, 2014 · Locke's death convinced Jack to return to the island and thus sets in motion a chain of events leading to the death of the MIB and the island being saved. Jack takes Locke's place as the 'man of faith'. But Locke's death still totally sucks and was a big old slap in the face. 4.

Ben was extremely jealous of Locke and insecure about his position since Jacob had never granted him an audience and he got cancer on the island. Locke appeared to have everything Ben wanted.
Oct 24, 2010 · Also, Locke was on the verge of committing suicide before Ben stopped him. Which pretty much told anyone - including Ben - about Locke's emotional state. He had failed to convince Jack, Sayid, Kate and Hurley to return to the island. Via a promise he had made to Jin, he never bothered to approach Sun.

Love and near death experiences/physical shocks in the sideways world seem to be what trigger flashes of the original timeline. It doesn't have to be one or the other. 16.
Every encounter Richard had with him prior to Oceanic 815 was the Smoke Monster. Smoke Monster led everyone to believe Locke was special so that he could assume his form and lead Jacob's people. Locke was simply a pawn in the long ~150 year plan MIB/Smoke Monster set into motion starting with the arrival of the Black Rock. 9.
Dec 11, 2017 · Even in adversity, there are reasons to be happy. Glass is half full kind of thinking. We don't yet know why he sees silver linings and can't be sad about the deaths of folks he doesn't know. Yes, it's creepy. It's also childlike, self-centric in the same way. He wants to share his joy, then realizes it isn't understood.
