Jan 1, 2021 · Reagan won by a margin of 5 less points than Nixon did but he came way closer to a 50 state sweep than Nixon did. Re: Why did Walter Mondale get destroyed so badly in 1984? 1.America loves a cult of personality, "star" candidates, and always votes for the more charismatic candidate.
Abstain or third party, but really cross my fingers for Mondale because this is one of few situations where there really is a lesser evil; fortunately, McCain and Kemp would be pretty out-of-touch with the modern GOP and a classic New Dealer might actually do really well in the modern political climate.

Jul 4, 2020 · Colbert, Jackson, and Lawrence Counties in North Alabama would fit into the category which you seek. Mondale won these counties over Reagan 52-45%, 52-46%, and 51-47%.
