Jun 24, 2012 · The virgule is used only when indicating a line break in an inline quotation. There is no symbol for "and/or" likely because in technical or scientific realms "or" means "just A, just B, or both A and B." Restated, "or" in technical realms is inclusive. "Exclusive or" or "xor" (pronounced eks-or) means only "just A or just B." Share.
Jun 27, 2015 · The World Wide Web Consortium is the standards organization for HTML, and in their recommendation for HTML 5, they refer specifically to Unicode character 003C: The first character of a start tag must be a "<" (U+003C) character. 003C is generally the character produced from the keyboard (shift + comma on a US keyboard).
Aug 23, 2014 · @WS2 In speech, very nearly always. In writing, much less so. I think what may be going on is that one just assumes that “June 1” is pronounced “June First”, or “4 July” as “the Fourth of July”.
This symbol is mostly know as "arroba" at my country. It is used to mean 15 kgs or 33 pounds, and it's a pretty common unit in the farming scope, mostly with cattle. This (a unit of measurement) seems to be the original, intended usage of this little funny guy, but at some point it got some new uses. –
Jun 14, 2012 · The pair 'ae' or the single mushed together symbol 'æ', is not pronounced as two separate vowels. It comes (almost always) from a borrowing from Latin. In the original Latin it is pronounced as /ai/ (in IPA) or to rhyme with the word 'eye'. But, for whatever reason, it is usually pronounced as '/iy/' or "ee".

Exceptions are made for common abbreviations such as the name of a corporation, and stylistic typography in general, most commonly title pages, particularly for ceremonial purposes such as a dissertation. Tradition trumps brevity in most of the contexts, however.
