Nurse, a native of Carroll, Iowa, was a guard at the University of Northern Iowa from 1985-89. Following his playing career, he became an assistant at UNI for the 1989-90 season.
Since serving as an assistant at his alma mater, Nurse has made a number of coaching stops. From 1995-2006, Nurse coached a number of European teams, most of which were in the British Basketball League. He was named the BBL Coach of the year for the 1999-00 and 2003-04 seasons.
Iowa Energy After a successful BBL coaching career, Nurse was hired to be the head coach of the NBA D-League's Iowa Energy in 2007. In four seasons coaching the Energy, Nurse held a head coaching record of 124-76.
