We road all 4 train systems in portugal and 1 bus. The alfa pendular 1st class (only slightly more than 2nd class and worth it) was on time, clean, comfortable, roomy, fast and reasonably priced. Key here is to reserve in advance! Even the stations were very clean! Totally enjoyed going from one end of portugal to another this method.
