In September, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights opened a new exhibit on the Indian Act. Located in the Museum’s first gallery, where visitors are introduced to foundational principles and essential themes of human rights, the exhibit presents the Indian Act as a tool of assimilation, dispossession and oppression.
Giving human rights a home. In 2000, Israel Asper began to imagine a world‐class human rights centre for Canada. A few short years later, in April 2003, plans for the Canadian Museum for Human Rights were announced by Asper and his supporters.
