The Crucified Lovers (Japanese: 近松物語, Hepburn: Chikamatsu Monogatari), also titled A Story from Chikamatsu, is a 1954 Japanese drama film directed by Kenji Mizoguchi. It was adapted from Monzaemon Chikamatsu's 1715 bunraku play Daikyōji mukashi goyomi.

Chikamatsu Monogatari - an underrated masterpiece by Mizoguchi (and Miyagawa) I found this gem while working my way through the Kazuo Miyagawa cinematography collection on Criterion Channel. Like Kenji Mizoguchi's other late works, it is beautiful, ethereal, profound, and deeply painful.
