Most gasoline in Sumas WA, or Lynden WA comes form the same refineries as the lower mainland. Washington State has gas taxes too. Translink in Vancouver and they put a tax (page 5) on gas of 18.5 cents. Abbotsford uses BC Transit which does not put a tax on gas unless you live in Victoria as far as I can find.
TLDR: Gas prices in Abbotsford are essentially at par with Vancouver’s despite no Translink Tax. (Red bars on graph indicate what the cost of gas should actually be).
The USD 3.95 per gallon rate for gas in the States translates to CAD 4.93 per gallon, or CAD 1.30 per litre. According to GasBuddy, in BC, CAD 1.87 is the lowest reported price at the pump at a SuperSave in Langley, nearly 60 cents more expensive than what you’d be paying in the States.
