EDUCATION 1965 - 66 Art Institute of San Francisco (studied with Jay DeFeo) 1971 UC Berkeley, Bachelor of Art Degree (studied with George Miyasaki, Felix Ruvolo, David Simpson, Patrick Tidd, Marvin Liposki, Peter Selz, and Spiro Kostof)
James is the only physical theater artist ever invited to perform with legendary San Francisco street mime Robert Shields of CBS' The Shields & Yarnell Show. He is the first American clown invited to perform in the famed Teatro Dimitri of Switzerland.
Jay Russell passed away suddenly on June 30th, 2008 at the young age of 44. Jay was a real talent and we will miss him dearly. Over the last few years we have had the honour of hosting two sell-out exhibitions of his pieces. He was best known for his music related paintings rendered on 78 RPM records. Artist Information:
