Apr 8, 2022 · When Kirsty Bell moved with her family from the eastern part of Berlin to a larger apartment on the Landwehrkanal, she couldn’t shake the feeling that her home was trying to resist her. Patches of mould appeared on the walls; water kept leaking in.
The Undercurrents is a dazzling work of biography, memoir, and cultural criticism told from a precise vantage point: a stately nineteenth-century house on Berlin’s Landwehr Canal, a site at the center of great historical changes, but also smaller domestic ones.
