The St. Rita branch became its own school in 1997. Today the building contains over 60 classrooms and serves over 1000 students. In 2012, Marquette was turned around as part of the Academy of Urban School Leadership (AUSL) network and rebranded: Marquette School of Excellence.
These range from Career Programs, French Immersion, Montessori, Early Learning, Richmond International Education, and Continuing Education. Programs are located at various schools throughout the district and have specific catchment area boundaries.

Nov 6, 2023 · The Richmond School District is receiving $16.5 million in funding from the province to add more classrooms to Samuel Brighouse and William Cook elementary schools. The funding is for 11 “pre-fabricated modular classrooms” — six at Brighouse and five at Cook — that will add 275 new student spaces at the two schools next school year.
