Tobias "Tobi" Lütke (born 1981) MSC is a German/Canadian entrepreneur who is the co-founder and CEO of Shopify, an e-commerce company based in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. He has been part of the core team of the Ruby on Rails framework and has created open source libraries such as Active Merchant. As of 2022, he was the 11th richest Canadian.
May 8, 2021 · Lütke met his wife Fiona in Canada on a snowboarding trip, and in 2002 moved to Ottawa to be with her. Without a degree, he couldn’t get a work permit, but could start a company, so launched an online snowboard shop,Snowdevil, with the financial support of Fiona’s parents (still his largest shareholders, and now billionaires).
