Tom McCarthy (born 1969) is an English writer and artist. His debut novel, Remainder, was published in 2005. McCarthy has twice been nominated for the Man Booker, and was awarded the inaugural Windham-Campbell Literature Prize by Yale University in 2013. [1] He won a Believer Book Award [2] for Remainder in 2008.
Tom McCarthy, whose third novel, C (2010), was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize, has been hailed as one of the most brilliant and original writers of his generation. However, it took the publishing world some time to recognise his talent and take a chance on publishing this innovative and experimental new writer.

Tom McCarthy — “English fiction’s new laureate of disappointment” (Time Out, September 2007) — is a writer and artist. He was born in 1969 and lives in a tower-block in London. Tom grew up in Greenwich, south London, and studied English at New College, Oxford.

In 2013 he was awarded the inaugural Windham-Campbell Literature Prize by Yale University. McCarthy is also the author of the study Tintin and the Secret of Literature, and the essay collection Typewriters, Bombs, and Jellyfish. He lives in Berlin.
