West Hawk Lake is an impact crater lake on the Whiteshell River located in the Whiteshell Provincial Park in southeastern Manitoba, Canada. The circular shape of the main body of the lake is due to the submerged West Hawk crater, caused by a meteor impact into an ancient rock bed composed of mostly granite.

Aug 11, 2020 · While Whiteshell Provincial Park is a tried and true tradition for many - believe it or not - this was my first time spending time at the famous West Hawk Lake. Why famous, you ask? The not-so-sleepy summer town is known for its amazing trails, crystal-clear waters (formed by a meteor!) and its high energy, lake-life vibes.
Try McGillivray Falls, Whiteshell River or Mantario hiking trails. The beach is a great place for sun tanning, people watching or sharing stories. As motorboats cut through the water, listen to the shrieks of excitement that can be heard from the people water skiing or tubing across West Hawk Lake.

The West Hawk Lake Impact Crater, a simple crater, was excavated in metavolcanic and metasedimentary rocks of the Precambrian Superior Province. It lies within Whiteshell Provincial Park in eastern Manitoba, about 100 km east of Winnipeg.
At 115 metres, West Hawk Lake on Hwy. 44, is the deepest in Manitoba. A meteorite is believed to have created the crater which eventually became a lake.
