With the excellent cinematography by Boqing Xue and Xingsan Yu, together with a slightly expressionist set design, director Ma-Xu creates an ominous gloomy atmosphere of mystery and magic that really sets the mood for this story of horror and romance (most of the scenes are set at night).
Song at Midnight is an awesome adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera. It's genuinely scary at times because of the intense makeup and atmosphere. It's a shame that at the moment, the only version available is absolutely horrible quality.
