Located in southern Ohio 41 miles (66 km) south of Chillicothe, it lies on the north bank of the Ohio River, across from Kentucky and just east of the mouth of the Scioto River. Portsmouth is located at the confluence of the Ohio and Scioto rivers in the southernmost tip of the state. The City of Portsmouth is approximately 80 miles south of Columbus and 110 miles east of Cincinnati, with easy access to major metropolitan areas in the Tri-State Region.
One survivor of those early floods is the Boneyfiddle district of Portsmouth with its pre-1900 architecture. Today, this area is the subject of intensive restoration and surely will become one of the state's most notable attractions for tourists, historians and architecture buffs.
