We used to enjoy getting into the ruck at the start of a new dance when all the men on one side of the hall stampeded across to the women sat on the other side.

That's good, because the regular street would be Hurst Street, and there was unlikely to be a club in the north end of the street (going towards the Town Hall), so it would have been in the south end of Hurst Street. Not being a club person, I can't help you further, but there are others on here who might be able to.

The concrete road around there was laid by Italian prisoners of war. They changed the road names to Riverbrook Dv and Pitleasow Cl when the pre-fabs were demolished.

  7. my brother in law came over from dublin 1940s. he joined the army (inniskilling fusiliers) and fought the japs mainly in burma.

  10. thats a blast from the past phil,that and the shamrock club ,la dolce vita and the garry owen ,i met my husband in the locarno in hurst street at the locarno in 1972 happy days eh!
