Early life and education. Farmer was born in Ohsweken, Ontario into the Cayuga Nation and Wolf Clan [ 2 ] of the Haudenosaunee/Iroquois Confederacy. [ 3 ][ 4 ][ 5 ] He grew up in the American city of Buffalo where his father worked as a crane operator. [ 6 ]

Jul 15, 1998 · GROSS: So you didn't grow up on the reservation? FARMER: No. I actually grew up in an urban environment in Niagara Falls, New York and Buffalo, New York. My father was an operating engineer, grew up with the industrial revolution of America. My grandfather dug the hole for Love Canal, if you can believe that.
In his career spanning over four decades, Farmer originated the role of Zachary Jeremiah Keecheegeshik in the original production of Dry Lips Oughta Move to Kapuskasing for Theatre Passe Muraille, Native Earth Performing Arts and eventually the Royal Alexander Theatre all in Toronto 1989-90.
