Edward Teach, also known as Blackbeard, lived in the Goose Creek area. If you drive up NC-92 to the historic townof Bath, there’s a historical marker detailing this. It’s no wonder that Blackbeard frequented this area, as it is gorgeous and full of wildlife. His footprints, however, were not the first here. There’s an exciting mix of ecology at Goose Creek State Park. Both sides of the park boast utterly different plant and animal life. 3. Walk or Bike the Main Road
Personally, one of my favorite ways to experience Goose Creek State Park is to drive from the entrance to the end of the road. From there, you can find a picnic table for a nice lunch or hop on a trail. Riding a bicycle is also a nice way to explore the main road, as you can stop and check out the scenery without blocking an entire lane. You will see huge loblolly pine trees, huge waterfront live oaks, palmettos, and get to explore a unique swamp. There is a long boardwalk through the swamp and it is absolutely beautiful and full of life. We saw 8 snakes while on our trip, and it was exciting to see them in the wild.

Goose Creek State Park offers two camping areas: a newly opened loop with RV campsites and cabins and a primitive tent campground located between Goose and Flatty creeks. The RV camping area has 22 sites that all have full hook-ups (electric, water and sewer). One site is wheelchair accessible.

The quiet waters of Goose Creek offer canoeists the perfect opportunity to view nature from a different vantage point; visitors must bring their own canoes, as none are available for rent at the park. A state fishing license is required for fishing in the river and creeks and river. Common catch include largemouth bass, bluegill, and perch.
