Heist clearly maps the manner in which entrenched power in the United States has methodically conducted a strategic and ideological counterrevolution to the New Deal. The film demonstrates how the US government’s involvement in public policy and economic prominence has been progressively dismantled.
In this paper, I investigate how contemporary representations of the American Dream on film are reflecting and dealing with this remarkable historical period when the Dream is in decline. I examine the concept's origins, exploring how it has evolved to mean domestic felicity and economic security.
