Academics. Ignatian education emphasizes cura personalis — care for the whole person — guiding young people to become lifelong learners and ethical human beings. SI's college preparatory curriculum helps students build knowledge and skills that lead to wisdom, understanding, and action.
Through a four-year college preparatory curriculum, SI students develop intellectual skills that go beyond academic excellence and requirements for college entrance. The knowledge and skills they acquire lead to wisdom, understanding, and action.
It is hard to imagine a less auspicious start for St. Ignatius College Preparatory. When Fr. Anthony Maraschi, SJ, first opened the doors of the brand-new St. Ignatius Academy on San Francisco’s Market Street, expecting to see a crowd of Catholic boys eager for Jesuit education, only three small faces peered at him on that October day in 1855.
In 1969, students left their old high school behind and moved into a new 11.4-acre college preparatory campus in the Sunset District. The school became coeducational in 1989 and now stands as one of the region’s leading schools.
