      • Olympus Has Fallen boasts a solid cast, some great fights, and isn't quite as preposterous as it might have been. Gerard Butler can still make good movies! Olympus Has Fallen is a better Die Hard film than A Good Day to Die Hard.

The action-thriller Olympus Has Fallen is a far better Die Hard movie than the one released last month. That's not to say this film isn't without its ludicrous moments and formulaic faults, but Olympus Has Fallen is still a solid, old school action-thriller featuring a fine cast and a sincere execution by director Antoine Fuqua that lifts it above other fare of this sort.

Gerard Butler stars as Secret Service agent Mike Banning, a tough but reliable bloke who serves on the personal protection detail of President Ben Asher (Aaron Eckhart). He's not just the President's bodyguard, but also a close friend to both him and his young son Connor (Finley Jacobsen).

But after a tragedy during the line of duty, Banning finds himself transferred to Treasury (the Secret Service's other duty being counterfeiting investigations). Banning gets a chance to redeem himself when a surprise attack on the White House cripples the U.S. government and leads to the capture of President Asher and his key staff during the visit by the leader of South Korea.

Gerard Butler can still make good movies, like the surprisingly fun action-thriller Olympus Has Fallen that's a far better Die Hard movie than the one released last month.

  6. Olympus Has Fallen (2013) *** (out of 4) Former Presidential guard Mike Banning (Gerard Butler) finds himself going up against a group of terrorists who have overtaken the White House and now have the President of the United States (Aaron Eckhart) held captive.

  7. Mar 20, 2013 · Film Review: ‘Olympus Has Fallen’. Bulgarian-made CGI does more damage than the North Korean terrorists in Antoine Fuqua's grim White House actioner. By Peter Debruge.

  8. Parents need to know that Olympus Has Fallen is a remarkably violent but patriotic action thriller that's like Die Hard meets Air Force One, with way more blood. The body count is insanely high -- people are tortured, blown up, shot, and killed in hand-to-hand combat.
