Jun 4, 2008 · Charles Woodward, merchant, politician (b in Wentworth County, Canada W 19 July 1842; d at Vancouver 2 June 1937). After failing as a farmer and having mixed success as a merchant on Manitoulin Island and at Thessalon, Ont, Woodward decided that Vancouver offered better opportunities.
Charles Woodward was one of the first Canadian employers to offer profit sharing and group insurance to his staff. He donated a considerable amount of time and money to his church and community and was the Liberal MLA for Vancouver from 1924 to 1928.
