Jul 30, 2021 · From April 2020 to May 2021, transit passengers as a proportion of the same pre-pandemic month averaged just under one-third (30.9%) nationally. In Atlantic Canada, transit agencies in the four provinces maintained more than 40% of their 2019 monthly ridership through the pandemic (Chart 2).
Aug 18, 2021 · Only 24% of Toronto and 16% of Vancouver respondents stayed off transit completely over the 10-month period between survey waves. Number of transit boardings over the last seven days rose to 5.94 in March 2021, up from 3.6 in May 2020. This is still down from 17.23 pre COVID-19.

As more restrictions followed towards the end of the year, ridership dipped back under 50 million in early 2021. While ridership reached almost 54 million in March of 2021, the spring saw fewer commuters in Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia as a result of stricter measures to combat a third wave.

Sep 16, 2021 · A Liberal Party of Canada spokesperson sent TVO.org a statement touting the government’s recent transit investments and the creation of a permanent public-transit fund slated to begin in 2026. In Ontario, the statement says, the Liberal government would continue investments in the Toronto area.
