It all started here. Just a couple of months after The Force Awakens announced the return of Star Wars, Rian Johnson rolled cameras on what was then known as Episode VIII (technically he'd shot some footage late in 2015, but this was the start of principal photography). This was announced with a short but stirring teaser that confirmed the movie wo...

The first proper look at The Last Jedi came at Star Wars Celebration 2017, with a teaser trailer that gave a taste of Rian Johnson's impressive imagery and his darker take on the franchise: we got Rey's moody use of powers, a glimpse of the destruction of Skywalker's temple, and, of course, finally heard Mark Hamill speak, saying the chilling line ...

It was another six months before we got the next proper footage (although there was the D23 sizzle reel in the interim, which we'll get to later), but it was more than worth the wait. The official trailerdidn't just give us more footage (including a porg) but contained some shocking revelations: Kylo Ren considers killing Leia; Luke is scared of Re...

International trailers tend to be variants on pre-existing trailers, which is definitely true of The Last Jedi's; this one is in part the Official Trailer, with some of the teaser and, crucially, a bit of new footage: there's BB-8 out of Poe's X-Wing and a brief glimpse of C-3PO looking - shocker - alarmed.

Once the trailers stopped, the TV spots began. And, like the First Order, there's seemingly no stopping them. People often complain about TV spots giving away too much, and that was even true of the notoriously tight-lipped The Force Awakens, but here it all feels like extension, with few major spoilers at play - which makes them all the more worth...

Luke in the Falcon? Rey raising the saber against her master? "Darkness rises and light to meet it"? This may just be the best piece of promotional material for The Last Jedi, a chilling mood piece that features some purely incredible shots.

As the title suggests, this is all about our main trio: Finn, Poe and Rey. Unlike the rest of the trailers, this is more unashamedly about the Reistance, with Finn waking up (his first words are "Rey") and a little more of Poe in action in his X-Wing.

And we're back to Rey and Luke! This TV spot is very much an expansion of the teaser, with a bit more of Skywalker training his new apprentice and looking altogether worried by her untapped, unlimited power.

This spot got its name from Phasma's menacing welcome to (presumably) Finn, but made headlines for showing Chewbacca batting away a porg. A short and sweet Thanksgiving tease, this really hammered home the message of these all trailers: Star Warsis back!

Presented on GMAby Mark Hamill, this spot had a lot of new footage. Focusing partially on Poe and BB-8 on a high-speed mission and Rey choosing to use Luke's saber, it's an epic character piece with one hell of a payoff.
