This name change was approved, but only of the southern portion of the townsite, and the name was officially changed in 1916. When was Cardiff renamed?
The first Cardiff railway station, known as Winding Creek, was opened in 1888. It was renamed Cardiff in February 1889. The original line was found to be too steep and a deviation was constructed and completed by June 1902. A new station was built on the deviation in 1904.
