  1. Jan 1, 2001 · Blood and Chocolate was a book that I didn't totally like the first time around--I wasn't exactly sure how I felt about it, to be honest. It's well written but much darker than most YA fiction. Overall I felt positive about the story even though I didn't quite care for the protagonist, Vivian--she comes across as slutty and entirely too sure of herself.

  2. Klause returns to the steamy sensuality of her first book, The Silver Kiss (1990), for this tale of a hot-blooded teenage werewolf who falls for a human meat-boy.'' It's an experiment that's doomed from the start ...

  4. Apr 3, 2023 · A quick, engaging read, Blood and Chocolate tells the story of Vivian Gandillon, a teenage girl who is part of a larger shifter pack that can change to wolves at will. I found Vivian a compelling enough character and Annette Curtis Klause's prose sets out a very clear difference between the wolf pack and ordinary humans.

  6. This sets the stage for a compelling novel which can be read as an adolescent identity quest, a paranormal romance, a tale of group survival against daunting odds, or a study in leadership and succession. It is also a compelling story with episodes painted in superb prose: some as bittersweet as chocolate, some as sharp as the taste of blood.

  8. Aug 14, 2007 · Just bought a new copy of Blood and Chocolate because I lost the old one. I had forgotten how much I love this book. Unlike a lot of young adult romance the focus remains entirely on Viviane's struggles with her identity and her family, and there is a real sense of the conflict she feels trying to claim independence while being very reliant on the support network around her.
