History of Quispamsis. The original inhabitants were the proud Maliseet First Nation, part of the great Algonquin Federation. The name “Quispamsis” was translated from the Maliseet language and means “little lake,” representing present-day Ritchie Lake.

The qplex, a multipurpose recreation and conference centre, is a fixture in Quispamsis. Highlighting the facility are its NHL-sized ice surface, indoor walking track, McCluskey Brothers Conference Centre, outdoor swimming pool and playground. It is fully accessible.
The Town of Quispamsis seeks to work collaboratively with members of the community and Town staff to resolve bylaw violations when they are noted. Bylaws are enforced using a complaint-based system. We do not employ full-time bylaw enforcement officers.

In Quispamsis, we love keeping our community clean and beautiful. Curbside garbage, compost and recycling collection is handled by Fero Waste and Recycling Inc. Collection is biweekly and the day of the week depends on where you live.
