It is located on the eastern slope of the Black Hills in western South Dakota and was named after Rapid Creek, where the settlement developed.

We had a full week in Rapid City and it felt very busy. Rapid City offers easy access to the Black Hills, the Badlands, and some impressive outdoor adventuring.
