Fleming Field (originally known as University Athletic Field) was the first on-campus home for the football and baseball teams representing the University of Florida in Gainesville. Construction began in 1910, and the facility debuted as the home field for Florida Gators outdoor sports programs during the spring semester of the 1910-1911 academic year.

The success of the 1928 Gators inspired the school to replace primitive Fleming Field with a modern facility, and Florida Field opened in 1930. Despite their new home stadium, Gator teams did not find much success on the field through the 1930s and 1940s and had only four winning seasons in those decades.
The Gators hosted their first night game at Florida Field on September 23, 1950. Fifteen years later, an additional 10,000 seats were added to the east side and bleachers were constructed on the south end zone bringing the capacity to 62,800. In 1971, the grass field was replaced with Astroturf, but two decades later the surface returned to grass.
In early 1911, the university installed bleachers on this practice field, first known as University Athletic Field and then as Fleming Field, starting in 1915. There, through 1929, the Gators played for crowds of up to 8,000, initially as part of the Southern Intercollege Athletic Association (1912–1921) and later with the Southern Conference (1922–1932).
