Chatham is located at the southeastern tip of Cape Cod and has historically been a fishing community. First settled by the English in 1664, the township was originally called Monomoit based on the indigenous population's term for the region. [1] Chatham was incorporated as a town on June 11, 1712, and has become a summer resort area.

- Shop On Main Street. The main attraction is definitely Main Street, and this is one of my favorite things to do in Chatham, MA. It’s packed with gorgeous shops, many of which are independently owned, but there are also some franchise favorites like FatFace and Sundance Clothing.
- Visit Chatham Lighthouse. Another one of the most popular things to do in Chatham, MA is to go see the lighthouse. This lighthouse was originally part of a duo of lighthouses to distinguish themselves from Highland Lighthouse in Truro, which looks very similar.
- Explore Chatham Lighthouse Beach. If you go to see the lighthouse, then just turn around, and you’ll see Lighthouse Beach. This is definitely one of the best things to do in Chatham, MA, so you don’t want to miss it.
- Take A Seal Tour. If you want to head out onto the water and pretty much be guaranteed seal sightings in their natural habitat, then you’ll want to take a seal tour with Monomoy Island Ferry.
Feb 18, 2024 · Chatham Railroad Museum. 153 Depot Road Chatham, MA. This train station served the town for half a century, from 1887-1937. Touring the 100+ year-old depot building and the fully restored caboose on site gives a fascinating glimpse of rail travel to Cape Cod in days gone by. Admission is free.
