   Why is Goose Creek state park called Goose Creek?

   • Established in 1974, Goose Creek State Park was named for the creek that runs into the Pamlico River. Follow the river, and you’ll eventually meet the Pamlico Sound and Ocracoke Island. Before the government preserved the park’s land, it served multiple purposes. The earliest known inhabitants were the Secotan and Pamlico tribes.
