Ehrenbreitstein Fortress (German: Festung Ehrenbreitstein, IPA: [ˌfɛstʊŋ ˈeːʁənbʁaɪtʃtaɪn] ⓘ) is a fortress in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate, on the east bank of the Rhine where it is joined by the Moselle, overlooking the town of Koblenz.
Today, Ehrenbreitstein is the only surviving Prussian fortress from the 19th century, the largest historical fortress in Europe after Gibraltar and part of the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley.
The Ehrenbreitstein Fortress is located on a high hill overlooking the Rhein and Mosel Rivers in koblenz. There have been battles on the hill for 3,000 years but most of the present fortress was built in the 1800's. There are lots of exhibits and an outdoor snackbar overlooking the city.
