Manly is a beach-side suburb of northern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. It is 17 kilometres (11 mi) north-east of the Sydney central business district and is currently one of the three administrative centres of the local government area of Northern Beaches Council .
Manly Beach is the main drawcard. The world's first surfing contest was held at Manly in 1964, making it one of Australia's most famous beaches. Stretching out for three kilometres, it is usually less crowded than its Eastern Suburbs counterparts. - Relax at the beach. Manly Beach is huge – it’s actually three beaches in one. It’s roughly 1.5 kilometers (0.9 miles) long as the crow flies and stretches all the way from Queenscliff to South Steyne.
- Manly to Shelly Walk. We love the Manly to Shelly walk. It’s one of our favorite things to do at Manly Beach, and it only takes around 20 minutes. The route takes you from Manly Beach to Shelly Beach, which is just south of Manly.
- Go whale watching. The Northern Beaches region is a popular place to spot whales traveling up and down the coast. Between May and November each year, over 40,000 southern right and humpback whales swim along Sydney’s coastline as they migrate up from Antarctica.
- Learn to surf. Manly is a surfer’s paradise, so it’s an ideal place to learn to surf. Manly Surf School runs surf lessons every day, and they cater to all ability and experience levels.
