Robert of Melun (c. 1100 – 27 February 1167) was an English scholastic Christian theologian who taught in France, and later became Bishop of Hereford in England. He studied under Peter Abelard in Paris before teaching there and at Melun, which gave him his surname.
- Vaux-le-Vicomte. The ambitious and ultra-rich Nicolas Fouquet commissioned this dazzling Baroque château in the mid-1600s. Apart from its size and absurd grandeur the property is historic for being the first time that landscaper André Le Nôtre and decorator Charles Le Brun collaborated on a large-scale project.

The welcoming town of Melun lies on the Seine and is the historic capital of the Capetian Kings of France. It's a lovely place for a wander, with a pedestrian-only centre and pleasant river banks and harbour.

Melun, town, Seine-et-Marne département, Île-de-France région, northern France. It lies 28 miles (45 km) south-southeast of Paris. Like Paris, it is situated on both banks of the Seine, and its ancient church of Notre-Dame stands on an island between two branches of the river.
