  2. The new Parish was carved out of that of St Martin-in-the-Fields and covered an area stretching from Regent Street (then called Swallow Street) westward to the Serpentine, and southward from Oxford Street to include the whole of what is now Mayfair, Belgravia and Pimlico.

  5. The Organ. The new organ for St George’s by Richards, Fowkes & Co of Ooltewah, Tennessee, USA is, as far as we know, the first American built organ in London and one of very few and the first for a long time in the UK. Indeed it is one of only a handful in Europe as a whole.

  7. Handel and St George's Probably the best known parishioner of all times was George Friderick Handel. He came to live in Brook Street in 1724, just as the church was nearing completion, and almost at once he was involved in the affairs of the new parish.

  9. View services listing. St George’s is first and foremost a living place of Anglican liturgy and worship, with our main Sunday Eucharist sung by our superb choir. Services are held each day (except Saturday) and use the traditional language of the Book of Common Prayer.

  10. Sep 20, 2024 · Historical Weddings. St George's has long figured in fact and fiction as a centre for fashionable weddings, and was referred to by a Victorian writer as " the London Temple of Hymen ". The first entry in the Marriage Register is dated April 30th, 1725.
