15 October 2020, Netflix ordered the young adult vampire series based on the short story by New York Times best-selling author Victoria "V. E." Filming
On March 10, 2021, it was announced that the series was set to begin production later in 2021 in Georgia. Filming started on April 5, 2021.
The show was released on June 10th, 2021. In total, First Kill scored almost 100 million hours viewed on Netflix globally between June 5th and June 26th (the first three weeks). First Kill was nominated for Best fictional Ship (Cal and Juliette) in BreakTudo Awards 2022.
On August 2, 2022, Netflix announced that First Kill was cancelled after its first an only season . Supposedly this was because the number of views didn't meet expectations . Victoria Schwab commented on her instagram on the cancellation: Efforts through the hashtag #SaveFirstKill was attempted, but no official response from Netflix has been given.
