Manchester By The Sea is the southernmost town on Cape Ann and has a population of approximately 5,300 residents. Originally a part of Salem, Massachusetts (like much of the north shore) Manchester was incorporated back in 1645 and sustained itself through the fishing industry for hundreds of years.
Manchester-by-the-Sea played a significant role in the fishing and shipping industries during the 18th and 19th centuries. It was known for its thriving harbor, which served as a hub for trade and commerce. Shipbuilding also thrived during this time, and the town became known for its high-quality fishing schooners.
