   Why is Montgomery County called Morgan County?

   • It was named in honor of Gen. Daniel Morgan, an American Revolutionary War veteran who commanded the troops that defeated the British at the Battle of Cowpens. He was later elected to Congress from Virginia. A year later, the town of Montgomery was named the county seat of Morgan County.
