Little Fish is a 2005 Australian film directed by Rowan Woods and written by Jacquelin Perske. Starring Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving, and Sam Neill, the film is about a heroin addict who is desperately trying to escape her past to achieve her goals.
Based on an idea director Rowan Woods had after graduating from film school and set in Sydney's Little Saigon, a poor outer suburb, full of people of Asian descent, Little Fish makes for provocative, cerebral viewing. The plot, as with the lives of this motley set of characters, revolves around drugs.
The return of her ex-boyfriend Jonny, the criminal aspirations of her brother Ray and the emotional draw of ex-footy star Lionel create friction for Tracy, and her bond of trust with her mother Janelle is tested. A story about families. About lies. And about learning to love again.
Set in Little Saigon in Sydney's western suburbs, Blanchett plays Tracy Heart, a girl clings to the hope of a new life as her brother and ex-boyfriend threaten (Nguyen) to destroy her chance of happiness by embarking on one last criminal venture.
