This is a list of U.S. states and territories ranked by their coastline length. 30 states have a coastline: 23 with a coastline on the Arctic Ocean, Atlantic Ocean (including the Gulf of Mexico and Gulf of Maine), and/or Pacific Ocean, and 8 with a Great Lakes shoreline.
The East Coast of the United States, also known as the Eastern Seaboard, the Atlantic Coast, and the Atlantic Seaboard, is the region encompassing the coastline where the Eastern United States meets the Atlantic Ocean.
The Atlantic was the most populous of the coastline regions, with about 44.4 million people, followed by the Pacific (34.4 million), and the Gulf of Mexico (15.8 million). About 70.9 percent (232.1 million) of the U.S. population lived in noncoastline counties.

Top Five Coastal Populations. California tops the coastal populations chart with 26.8 million people living in coastal counties, followed by Florida with 16.2 million, New York with 15.9 million, New Jersey with 7.2 million, and Texas with 6.9 million. 1
Today, these states make up the most populated coastal area in the nation. According to data from the 2010 Census, the states that have a coastline on the Atlantic Ocean have a total population of over 112 million people – about 36% of the United States' total population.
