平山湖大峡谷 (Pingshan Lake Grand Canyon) is a nice day trip from Zhangye. You can easily get a bus in the morning (starting from maybe 9am) and you get the bus back at about 3/4 in the afternoon. It is about a 2 hour bus ride to get there and the tickets are quite expensive (I think about 100 yuan), but the park is beautiful.
