Walking the Slad Valley Circular is a fascinating outing in The Cotswolds AONB that features some challenging terrain and provides beautiful views of the surrounding hills. While out on the trail, you will make your way through undulating woodland terrain while crossing over winding brooks and traversing beautiful stretches of open pasture.
Just upstream of its junction with the Holy Brook or Holly Brook, at Whitehall Bridge it becomes a main river, as classified by the Environment Agency. It inhabits a steep-sided narrow valley, which it shares in the upper reaches with the Thames and Severn Canal and the Golden Valley line railway.
Below Snow’s Farm the Slad Brook is joined by a brook coming down the “Piedmont Valley”. The brooks derive their supplies from springs issuing from the base of the Cotteswold Sands.” These brooks flowed with an average of about 300,000 gallons a day according to a fine summer’s day gauging in 1927.
