Takapuna is a suburb located on the North Shore of Auckland, New Zealand.The suburb is an isthmus between Shoal Bay, arm of the Waitematā Harbour, and the Hauraki Gulf. Lake Pupuke, a volcanic maar and one of the oldest features of the Auckland volcanic field, is a freshwater lake located in the suburb.
Take 'Lake Road' north from Takapuna central and you will arrive at Takapuna Pool and Leisure Centre, then the Pumphouse theatre and finally Lake Pupuke, where there is a lovely park area. This is just a 10 minute walk. People are just enjoying the sun, picnicking or enjoying themselves on the lake.

May 11, 2021 · The most impressive of these is a 1.6-metre diameter, 3-meter-deep tree cast, located beneath a protective grating about 100m north along the coastal walkway from Takapuna Beach. A 1.2-metre-wide imprint of a fallen trunk, believed to have belonged to a kauri, can also be seen preserved in the lava flow at Takapuna Beach.

Petrified tree trunks in the Takapuna Fossil Forest. The Takapuna Fossil Forest was once a coastal Kauri, Podocarp and Broadleaved forest in close proximity to the Pupuke Volcano (now a crater lake). At this time, the sea level was much lower than in the present day. [3] Approximately 190,000 years ago, the Pupuke Volcano erupted.
