Stanley reads it flawlessly, which finally moves Iris to open up to him. They go together to a hotel where they spend the night and make love for the first time. Some time later, Stanley announces that, based on the success of some of his inventions, he has been offered a well-paying job in Detroit and he will move there, which saddens Iris.
Over time they become romantically involved. After Stanley learns to read, he goes off to a good job in Chicago, only to return to Iris and ask her to marry him. It's a really good film without nudity, violence, or profanity, that which is rare in today's films. A good film all round. 17 out of 23 found this helpful.

Stanley's now sees that he's trapped by his reading disability. Stanley goes to a concert in the park where Iris and Richard see his aloofness and let it be. Iris is not ready to quit.
